If your Canon printer is showing an Error Code 5100 there can be several reasons for this.
- Packaging material was left inside the printer. It is important if using the printer for the first time you double check all packaging inside the printer has been removed including all orange tape.
- Your ink cartridges haven’t been installed properly. Remove all the cartridges and reseat them ensuring they all click into place properly (you may need to pull the level at the front of the cartridge towards you a little before you insert to ensure a snug fit).
- Paper is jammed inside the printer. Inspect the printer to ensure no paper is left in the printer if you have suffered a printer jam, you will need to lift the lid to look inside and carefully remove any bits of paper from the rollers.
- There is an object in the printer. Again, inspect inside the printer to ensure there is no debris causing a jam.
If the above don’t apply, reset your printer as follows:
- Turn off the printer by pressing the power button.
- Disconnect the data cable from the printer (not applicable to Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth® or Infrared).
- Unplug the printer power cable and leave the printer unplugged for approximately 10-15 minutes, then plug it back in.
- If the power cable is plugged in to an extension, it may be necessary (for testing purposes) to plug the cord directly into the wall outlet.
- Reconnect the data cable.
- Press the Power button to turn the printer back on, then trying printing again.
- This should resolve the 5100 error but if it doesn’t and the carriage is accessible, remove and replace the ink. Repeat the steps above.
