10 Years of Edible Print Supplies!

Edible Print Supplies are delighted to be celebrating our 10th Anniversary this June! We’re extremely proud to reach such a major milestone and can’t wait to give back to our wonderful customers throughout the month. Ahead of all the festivities, we thought we’d talk you through our proud history, discuss our incredible team and have a quick chat with the directors too! 

How It All Began

On 17th June 2015, Sharon Large, a keen cake-maker with years of edible printing experience, officially began pursuing her lifelong dream of developing a business in the baking world.  Throughout countless personal difficulties when producing many of her own bakes topped with edible prints, it was obvious that something clearly needed to change. Getting quality edible printing supplies in the UK was a tricky task 10 years ago, and options were few and far between, often demanding expensive fees. Sharon paved the way for major changes in the UK’s edible printing industry and aimed to make customised bakes far more accessible, doing so with a completely female-founded business!

From beginning with stacking products in the front room of the family home, to our team of now 9 operating within a warehouse in Whalley, Lancashire, including 6 family members currently working within the business! It’s been an unforgettable journey, and we at EPS are so proud to reach our 10-year landmark!

We’d like to say a massive thank you to all our customers who’ve joined us along the way, whether we’ve had the pleasure of supplying you since 2015, managed to meet you at any of our yearly Cake International stands (where we’ll be returning to once again later this year!), or even if we’re just getting to know you in 2025. We appreciate everybody who’s supported us in becoming the UK’s leading edible printing supplier and can’t wait to give back to as many of you as possible during our Anniversary sales and giveaways!

We’re aiming to keep reinventing the edible printing industry through the launch of further new products and are super proud of the tools and items that we’ve been able to provide so far – most recently with the successful introduction of our line of cutting tools, and cake/cupcake boxes!

Overcoming Barriers

10 years of operations doesn’t come without a few ups and downs. We’re so proud to have managed to overcome adversity on several occasions, with one of the first cases being navigation of the COVID-19 pandemic where we functioned under strict conditions, adapting to the shift that the pandemic brought to the baking-industry.

Furthermore, maintaining affordable prices for our customers throughout the cost-of-living crisis has been a major coup. We’re striving to keep costs as consistent and low as possible for our fellow bakers, especially while prices continue to rise for ingredients and other baking supplies.

And who could forget the E171 bans in the EU, a challenging period that certainly changed the landscape of edible printing and the cake decorating industry on a whole. We are overjoyed to say that we supply top quality E171-free icing sheets for our international customers and take great pride in providing inclusive and allergen free products for all edible printing requirements. 

Meet the Directors

Sharon Large and Matt Large, our two talented directors, are the spearheads who’ve driven 10 years of success at EPS. We sat down with them to discuss all their favourite moments and memories throughout the years and find out just what this milestone means to them. 

Can you sum up what it means to you to reach 10 years of EPS? 

Sharon: I’m totally amazed to be honest. I started the business 10 years ago with a passion for edible printing, not really looking into the future, and certainly couldn’t imagine still being here 10 years later!

Matt: I can’t believe how far we’ve come, but I’m so proud of the journey we’ve been on!

Do you have a favourite memory from throughout the 10 years so far? 

Sharon: A favourite memory of mine has to be our first time at the Cake International exhibition in Birmingham. We seriously miscalculated how busy we’d be and how much stock we’d need! Our team ended up having to travel back to Lancashire to re-stock our van, getting back to our hotel in Birmingham at 2am and then up at 7am ready for re-stocking our stall. A huge success for us - but you live and learn!

Matt: One of my favourite memories is moving into our first industrial unit. It was such a big decision for us moving from home and taking on a monthly rent and business rates etc. We had many laughs (and tears), whether it was me and Sharon getting on our hands and knees laying carpet tiles in our office area or installing the racking ourselves in the warehouse. We were so proud!  Never again we said, but 2 moves later and we’re now based round the corner and keep taking the carpet tiles every time we move… and the team keep saying we still need a bigger warehouse! 

What are you most proud of from your time with EPS? 

Sharon: I’m so proud we’re still here serving our customers, many of whom have been with us since the beginning. Since starting out at home 10 years ago with just me and my mum helping pack my orders, many things have changed, but we still have the same ethos, our customers come first. We now have 3 generations of our family working with us (my mum and dad, daughter and son), plus I’m proud to be creating employment for our lovely employees Rachel, Iain and Meg, all from the local area, each sharing the same passion.

Matt: I’m most proud of my wife Sharon, what a job she’s done! Plus, without her I’d still be an accountant sitting at a desk...

 

Do you have a favourite creation that you can remember being made using EPS products? 

Sharon: Our customer’s creations never cease to amaze me, they’re so inventive and artistic, something I’m definitely not!  Baking a Victoria sponge is as far as my talents take me!

If I had to choose one it has to be the EPS cake that our brand ambassadors The Yummiverse created (without any brief) for Cake International, which brought tears to my eyes as it was so amazing and even includes mini edible printers!

Matt: I always loved the viral burn-away cake trend, and Rachel’s creation (our marketing manager) of a ‘Traitors’ version was really impressive!
