Show me a child who doesn’t love to bake. What could be more entertaining than combining colouring and baking!
Baking is an easy and inexpensive way to keep your children entertained in these difficult times, combine it with colouring in and your children will have hours of fun, with some tasty, colourful treats at the end…….
Follow this quick and easy recipe for perfect results every time. All you need is:
For 12 cupcakes (or double the recipe for a 20cm cake):
- 100g self raising flour
- 100g baking marg (or normal marg / butter. whatever’s available)
- 100g sugar (normal granulated is fine)
- 2 eggs
- Colour and Bake kit
Mix all ingredients together in a food mixer or mix by hand until smooth
NB for Gluten Free use GF self raising flour plus add 1/2 tablespoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon xanthan gum and a splash of milk
Divide mixture into 12 cupcake cakes or 2 x 20cm cake tins if you’ve opted for double the recipe
Bake the cupcakes for 12 mins in at 180C or the cake for 20 – 25 mins at 180C. Check they’re ready by pressing gently on the top. If they spring back they’re ready.
For decoration you’ll need a spoonful of icing sugar mixed with a little water to form a sticky paste (so it’s glue consistency), and a Colour and Bake Kit.
Whilst the cakes are cooking (or pre / post baking) your children can use the edible pens and icing sheets in the Colour and Bake kit to create their own unique pictures.
Once the cakes are cool, remove the coloured in icing from the backing paper and use small blobs of the icing sugar paste to attach your brilliant designs.
